Reading tarot using the Thoth deck

Court Cards

Court Cards

There are four court cards in most tarot decks but the names of the individual cards vary according to the understanding and intent of the creator of the specfic decks. In the Rider-Waite deck (on which many readers cut their prognosticative teeth) uses page, knight, queen and king. Not Crowley. For one thing he wanted to make sure the genders were equal in representation and better balances the power between the pairs. That is princess and prince better equate across the hierarchy than page and knight.

The four court cards form a kind of symbolic rosette or, if you like, four points or segments of the solar round.

  • About me

I'm a bit of a mixed-blood. That is, I was raised as a witch (you probably don't mean the same thing I do with that word so careful with your assumptions) and a really big part of my family is Native American but I went to boarding school in England. I sing in the sweatlodge and at the winterdance. I also circle with Wiccan friends. I teach people to read tarot and interpret their dreams amongst other esoteric type things and I am an atheist. Let me repeat that: I am an atheist. No kidding.

I'm 53 and I've been reading cards since I was a young teen and been working with dreams even longer. I was raised to listen to the world speak and to recognize that the greatest of all wonders is science. I am also synesthesic. So what you find here is going to reflect this somewhat unconventional set of influences.
